Today, about 35% of world gold produced is used for industrial
purposes. The remaining 65% is manufactured into jewellery. The
world supply cannot meet the demand, hence the rarity value.
Hallmarks
The Hallmarking Act of the United Kingdom requires that all gold
sold over one gram in weight be marked with a minimum of three compulsory
symbols. Who made it? What is the metal fineness? Which Assay Office?
- Sponsor's or Maker's Mark
- Metal and Fineness Mark (purity)
- Assay Office Mark
Voluntary symbols may be added (e.g. egemz hallmark)
Pure gold is soft and easily damaged and therefore unsuitable for
jewellery. Gold is mixed with other metals to create a harder substance
from which to fashion objects. The gold content is then measured
as Caratage (carat) or Fineness.

Clearly the lower the caratage the less expensive the gold. 18
Carat gold is used in all jewellery items made by egemz craftsmen
unless otherwise specified. We specialise in high quality, hand
finished jewellery. The deep colour and lustre of 18 Carat gold
is reproduced in beautiful jewellery.
